Welcome

Welcome to the home page of the International Conferences on the Chemistry and Biology of Mineralized Tissues (ICCBMT). Here you will find relevant and fun information about our past meetings, and developing information about our next meeting.

The ICCBMT conference series, which has been held every three years since 1981, is one of the most important scientific gatherings in the field of biomineralization.  The meeting emphasizes a wealth of physicochemical, biological and clinical topics concerning mineralization processes in vertebrate and invertebrate species. These include, but are not limited to: cell and molecular biology of mineralized tissue/structure formation, hormone and cytokine regulation of mineralized tissues, signaling pathways, structure and function of extracellular components of mineralized tissues, model systems of biomineralization, disorders and pathology of mineralized tissues and development of therapeutic approaches, and, new technologies for studying crystal structure and formation.

The ICCBMT conference series aims to:

  1. Inclusively assemble a diverse, international multidisciplinary group of scientists from all career stages that share a common interest in biomineralization.

  2. Disseminate state-of-the-art information about the structure, function, and interactions of the mineral, matrix and cellular components in vertebrate and invertebrate mineralized tissues and structures.

  3. Provide a forum that strongly encourages collaborations among investigators across diverse scientific disciplines.

  4. Support participation of early-stage scientists through Travel Awards (up to 30 awards) to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, thus ensuring trainee integration into the conference by providing a platform in which to present their work alongside established investigators.

  5. Disseminate the knowledge and ideas presented at each conference through a published ICCBMT meeting proceedings in a peer-reviewed journal, thus broadening access of important meeting findings.

View the 13th ICCBMT Virtual Special issue published in the Journal of Structural Biology, a compilation of peer-reviewed perspective/reviews and original papers from the 2019 conference held in Montebello, Quebec, Canada.   The papers are available to all, free of charge throughout 2021, and thereafter on a subscription basis.  View.

Board of Directors

The ICCBMT Board of Directors welcomes Dr. Eve Donnelly and Dr. Dobrawa Napierala as new Members-at-Large, and Dr. William Landis assuming the position of Treasurer.  At the same time, we thank Dr. Jeffrey Gorski for his years of service as a Board Member and as ICCBMT Treasurer.

Next Conference - 14th ICCBMT
We are pleased to announce that the 14th ICCBMT conference will be held in Europe in the Fall of 2023, and will be co-chaired by Drs. Bernard Ganss (Canada), Mina Mina (USA) and Nico Sommerdijk (The Netherlands).
