13th ICCBMT Conference                                                                            October 20-25, 20197

2019 Eve and Arthur Veis Keynote Speaker

Bjorn R. Olsen, MD, PhD
Dean for Research and Professor of Developmental Biology
Hersey Professor of Cell Biology
Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, MA

Title: Cellular and molecular mechanisms in biomineralized tissue formation – lessons from genetic studies in humans and mice

Dr. Bjorn Olsen has made major contributions to the fields of extracellular matrix biology, genetics, and cell and developmental biology. These contributions have earned him international recognition and acclaim. Over the past 35 years, Dr. Olsen has made groundbreaking contributions to research into the roles of the extracellular matrix in embryonic development, and skeletal and vascular cell and molecular biology.

His research has furthered our understanding of diseases from dwarfism to congenital vascular anomalies, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, corneal dystrophy and retinal degeneration. His studies have uncovered fundamental roles of collagens, transcription factors, and receptors that affect not only skeletal development, but also angiogenesis and blood vessel morphogenesis.

The ICCBMT conferences adhere to the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) for its participants. Women, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from racial and ethnic groups (amongst other minority groups), are underrepresented in the sciences, and are encouraged to attend.  Appropriate representation will be considered during the selection of abstracts for oral and poster presentations, and during the allocation of Travel Awards and Diversity Travel Awards.
